UPDATE ON STATE PARKS BUDGET, ETC.
A quick update on recent actions from the budget conference committee
and budget negotiations.  Last night, the conference committee closed
out a number of outstanding items on their agenda, including funding for
the state park system.  They formally adopted the May Revise, which was
the Governor's proposal to simply reinstate General Fund dollars for the
Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) and allow DPR to raise fees to
generate $1.5 million.  So this means they did not put the State Park
Access Pass into the draft budget at this time.  However, Assemblymember
Laird indicated he will move the proposal into its own stand-alone
legislation, to keep the issue moving forward, given the fluidity of the
budget process.  It's worth noting that late last night the Democratic
leaders of the Assembly and Senate also released their first pass at
revenue options for shoring up the state's deficit, including higher tax
rates for high income earners, adjusting tax brackets for inflation,
etc.  These have all been summarily rejected in the press by
Republicans, which may be one reason Assemblymember Laird wanted to get
the State Park Access Pass out on its own. 

So although it would be preferable to be in the report from the budget
conference committee, the proposal is not dead and will be continued to
moved forward on a track that should be parallel to the budget.  At this
time, I don't have details on a bill number or an exact vehicle.  Once I
have more information, I'll pass it along. 

It's still appropriate to encourage your membership, partners and other
stakeholders to continue to contact their local legislators.
Particularly if this is moving toward a path of being considered
slightly separate from the budget, it will be critical that legislators
from all corners of the state hear constituent support for the proposal.

Grant Deed Needs Home
To all who this may interest, I have just acquired for the sum of $4.00 a "GRANT DEED" for a piece of property that is located in the County of Los Angeles, State of Californianos. This deed is for the transfer of 2 lots as follows: Lots Four, 4, and Five, 5, in Block Two, 2, of "Webber Tract No. 2," being a subdivision of a fraction of Farm Lot 61 American Colony Tract. The Grant Deed is for the transfer of said property from Mr. R. A. Wallace and his wife Linda M. Wallace  and Mr. Frank P. Fiery and his wife Lula M.
