La Tejedora Pregunta 570 - 13 September 2009I am seeking information about the Workman-Rowland Party of '41 and if there was such a person named Billy Perdew in that party. If so, then he had to have been a trapper in New Mexico. But where was he from? Also, I think that Billy Perdew fathered out of wedlock a son to Nieves Rowland, the daughter of John Rowland. The child, William Perdew, born 5 September 1846 in Puente, California, was my great grandfather. In short, I'm trying to verify a link to John Rowland through a child born to Nieves Rowland and Billy Perdew. [Robert Lindeboom (nonmember), Calif.] Respuesta a Pregunta 570 - 28 March 2010According to my family records I have a great grandfather with the name Julian William Reed Perdew who was born 5 September 1848 or 1849 and was raised by the Rowland family, more specifically - Lucille Rowland (Nieves' sister). His father, however, was not Billy but Josef. Probably not the same William Perdew, but thought it interesting the relation to the Rowland Family and the birthdates. Please let me know if there are anymore similarities in our respective family trees. Pregunta 569 - 14 August 2009Is Romaulda Alviso married to Eularito Morillo 17 April 1900 in San Luis Obispo the daughter of Nicolas Alviso (Butron) and Maria Juana Lorenzana (Vasquez)? [Simon Morillo (member), Vallejo, Calif.] Pregunta 568 - 14 August 2009I'm trying to locate information (parents, place of birth, date of birth,
etc.) for
Santiago/Santigo Quintero/s
and his wife
Dolores Ruiz,
parents to
Julian Quintero/s.
Julian was born in
1824 or 1834 at El Fuerte, Sinaloa, Mexico.
Julian married
Rita Marie Bermudez/s
, daughter of
Juan Hilario Bermudez/s
and
Ana Maria Lugo.
Rita was born on 25 June 1824 in San Gabriel, Los Angeles, Calif. Respuesta a Pregunta 568 - 15 February 2010Perfecto Duarte was the son of Manuel Duarte and Anselma Orantes, and a native of Baja California. In 1821 and 1827 he was a soldier in San Vicente. Eugenia Salgado may have been the daughter of Sgt. Estanislao Salgado, native of Loreto, and later at San Vicente. Estanislao was probably the son of Loreto soldier Francisco Javier Salgado, a Portuguese, and María Lucía Alipaz. Estanislao's wife was María Camacho. Lots of maybes and probablys, I know, but there were very few people in the north of Baja California at that time. [Rondi Frankel (nonmember), Mexico City, Mexico] Pregunta 567 - 14 August 2009 I have been trying to find either military records and/or marriage
records for
Pedro Sotero (Gallardo).
His name appears as
Pedro Sotero and
his wife was
Petra Agustina Gutierrez.
I have the baptism records for two of their sons: 1)
Manuel Ygnacio
(born 21 October 1760) and
George Miguel Maria
(born 30 September 1761). Both were baptized in Santa Gertrudis, California.
They had 9 children but I have only found the two baptism records. I know he
was a military soldier and he served as a "Cabo". He wrote some letters to the
Viceroy from Sinaloa in 1767 after he moved there from what the records
indicates "Las Californias". I have been doing my research for over twenty
years and I have been stuck at this point. Anyone who has information about
them I would really appreciate you share that information with me and the
sources where I can find it. Respuesta a Pregunta 567 - 15 February 2010Soldier Juan Antonio Botiller and Celia Cota were indeed the parents of María Luisa Botiller. Juan Antonio is recorded as having been born in 1745 at Real de Minas de Baroyeca, Sonora, and Martina in Villa de Sinaloa circa 1736. Juan's father, also Juan, was born near Villa de Sinaloa and was in Loreto, Baja California by 1733. It is very possible that Martina and Juan Antonio were related, though. [Rondi Frankel (nonmember), Mexico City, Mexico] Pregunta 566 - 2 August 2009Trying to find ancestry of my grandfather Albino (also spelled Alvino, Alben, or Alvin) Romero. He was a lemon grower in San Fernando in 1903. Married to Josefa (aka Josefina or Josephine) Lopez in 1893. I believe he had a sister named "Annie" who wrote to my grandmother from Punta Gorda on 27 June 1897. [Lynn Adams (Provisonal Member), Escondido, Calif.] Pregunta 565 - 21 July 2009I am a great granddaughter of Ramon Villalba. His daughter, Juana Villalba Adams, was my grandmother. Ramon was born in 1824 in Realde San Juan de Sonora, Mexico. He was the son of Juan Jose Villalba born in 1793 in Sonora, Mexico. His mother was Mercedes Lopez also of Sonora, Mexico. The family owned a 400-acre working cattle ranch in Sonora called "Esaville". Ramon & his brother, Rafael, left Mexico at a young age and moved to Carpenteria, Calif. where they purchased the acreage from the sea to the mountain. They named it "Punta del Norte". He & his brother went to the mine fields in the gold country snd there they opened up a livery stable where he met Charles Francis Adams (my grandfather). Ramon took Charles to Santa Barbara where he met & fell in love with Juana (Jennie) Villalba Adams. I am anxious to communicate with anyone who has more to tell. Thank you. [Juanita Adams McCandless (not yet member), Abilene, Tex.] Respuesta a Pregunta 565 - 2 August 2009I have been searching ancestors of Rafael Villalba, Ramon's brother, for several years. I have naturalization records for both brothers and baptismal, marriage, and death records from the Santa Barbara Mission Archive-Library and would be happy to share. I welcomed the information regarding the name of the village and ranch name in Sonora as the information I had was a corrupted name, "Esavil," which was not located. Contact me at ox@silcom.com . [Dorothy Oksnerr (nonmember), Carpinteria, Calif.] Pregunta 564 - 21 July 2009Does anyone know who the parents of Juana Maria Valenzuela were? She was probably born around 1775-1780 and was from Santa Barbara and married to Buenaventura Alvarez. Were her parents Indian? [Carlos Contreras (nonmember), Palmdale, Calif.] Respuesta a Pregunta 564 - 5 January 2010I can add a little to the response about Juana Maria Valenzuela's parents being Native American. My 5th great grandmother, Maria Antonia Valenzuela, was child # 3 and sister to your Juana Maria, #7. I had our mtDNA traced myself and found their mother's line, Maria Ana Augustina Alcantara y Meza (or Salazar, I've seen it both ways) is haplogroup C, which is Native American in their maternal ancestry. The National Geographic Genographic website has a very informational guide and map. C's are spread all throughout North and South America. [Valerie Hall (member), Sacramento County, Calif.] Respuesta a Pregunta 564 -21 July 2009According to Marie Northrop's Spanish Mexican Families of Early California 1769-1850, Vol. II, pp. 302-03: Juana Maria Valenzuela was baptized 7 May 1789 at Mission San Juan Capistrano. They were married 15 February 1773 in Alamos. Juan Segundo was a soldier with Rivera, arriving at San Gabriel 14 July 1781; he was in San Diego in 1790.
